It’s time for the weed report!

Today was one of those days, so good that I stopped work to spend time with my son.  I hope you are feeling the magic of Summer begin!  This is the time of year we all long for in the dreary months.  Pack your patience on the roads, nice weather means more tourists and slow moving RVs on the streets.  If you’re doin’ it to it for Memorial Day Weekend stop by the shop for some party supplies, we are open 9-9 daily.  Infused joints are 10% off Friday and Saturday, all concentrates 10% off Saturday (a la Shatterday) and Sunday is good for 10% off all regular prerolls.

Here’s an interesting article about a very small study on CBD as an opioid treatment.  What if CBD can really do all these wonderful things?  Hopefully more testing will prove its benefits within the next few years.

Check out our Leafly menu here.  The same menu is also available on our website.  You can also find us on Yelp and Google!  We love positive reviews, please consider leaving helpful comments so more people will check us out!  We sure do appreciate it!

This week at the Disco Bay Detour:

Open M-F at 7am, S-S at 8am for COFFEE & NEWS – espresso, fresh pastries

Wilderness Wednesdays at the Detour – Every Wednesday starting in April, 6-9pm
A Collaboration between Disco Bay Outdoor Exchange and Disco Bay Detour

Join Detour bartender, former wilderness ranger and current mountain guide Erin Reading for an evening focused on wilderness/outdoor adventure. The intention is to share collective knowledge with one another, build webs of connection among various outdoor communities, and to have fun delighting in one another’s adventure planning, stories, and questions. Everyone is encouraged to bring maps (yay!), trip planning ideas and resources, gear questions, pictures, or whatever else you feel inspired to ask or share.

While the foundation of Wilderness Wednesdays is simply a time to gather informally to pour over maps and share stories over drinks, some evenings will also feature a wilderness related presentation or workshop, with topics ranging from surfing, kayaking, backcountry skiing, and mountaineering to backpacking, flyfishing, local botany, and wild foraging. If you have a presentation or workshop you would like to share for one of the weeks (30-45min long presentation, plus some Q & A time) or a topic you would like to hear someone else speak about, contact Erin at erin.b.reading@gmail.com.

***Barring rain, we will have a fire going outside – feel free to bring something to grill on the schwenker or a snack/potluck dish to share if so inspired.***

For both experienced and aspiring outdoor adventurers – all are welcome! Hope to see you there!

Scheduled talks:
5/29: TBD with Climbing Ranger Sam Siemens-Luthy

6/5: The Art of the Fly Cast with World Record Setting Flycaster Peg Carlyle – 6pm start
Join world record setter Peg Carlyle for an introduction to flyfishing. Learn about flyfishing techniques and how to read the water. Finish with a live demonstration and the chance to try it yourself!

6/12: Beach Stories from all Over with Ken Campbell, Director of the Ikkatsu Project – 7pm start
Join long-time Northwest kayaker and author Ken Campbell to learn about the Ikkatsu Project’s marine plastic research programs and beach cleanups in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. From building boats out of marine debris to working with students in western Washington schools on microplastics testing programs, Ken is committed to expanding awareness about plastic in the ocean and the perils of single-use consumption. This presentation covers the varied history of volunteer driven programs, which take place in some of the wildest locations on the southeast Alaskan coast. The stories and visuals combine to make a stunningly entertaining and thought-provoking evening.

Thursdays are the Acoustic Open Mic Jam – Join Jillian as she hosts Open Mic/Jams in the Detour’s state of the art acoustic venue.  Plugged or unplugged, bring your instruments, original songs, renditions of classic ones, or works in progress.  Free, 7-9pm

Friday 5/24: New Victorian – Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Scott Taylor crafts ethereal folk tinged with country funk & plastic soul influences. Following the disbandment of No Go Know, New Victorian sprouted roots as a pointed downshift into nuanced reflection. Self-recorded over a period of several years in between duties as a husband, father and mental health social worker, “High Mass” presents a resonant song cycle detailing loss and reformation. New Victorian are currently prepping two EPs for release in 2019, while continuing to tour throughout the Pacific Northwest. Free, 7-9pm.

Saturday 5/25: Story Slam 2: That’s so PNW – Last time was so fun we gotta do it again! Another story-telling competition with a twist! Local sweetheart and DBD neighbor @audreyodh will be hosting the night! This month’s theme is “That’s so Pacific Northwest…” A new topic based on the theme will be drawn each round so competitors will have to be ready to think on their feet!  We are hoping with all of the PNW tales we can convince Sam to stay, and a little birdie told me former Sea Change budtender Anna may make an appearance!!  Sign ups at 7:30 show starts at 8PM, $3 cover. All covers go to champion.
