It’s time for the weed report!

WOW, Spring has arrived.  These sunny days are worth several terrible winter days, in my humble opinion.  We have some grand joints to keep your good times rolling.  We are probably most excited about the Bettie Page doobies, we used to get that bud a few years ago, haven’t seen her in a while, but the joints are now in the cabin!   Maybe it’s the power of suggestion but people feel like Bettie is an easy going, lovey dovey, good time gal!

And this just in, literally…  Dutch Treat bud from Craft Elixirs.  This bud is peculiarly high in CBG (about 5%) with a decent THC level (22.8%).  You’re probably saying to yourself “GREAT, Molly, I know about THC and CBD, what the heck is CBG?”  Well it’s another of more than 100 cannabinoids present in cannabis.  Like CBD, CBG (cannabigerol) is non-intoxicating, also thought to be anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, and beneficial to glaucoma sufferers as a powerful vasodilator.  We’ve got a small quantity of 2g bags for $10 and 3.5g bags for $20 so get some before it disappears.

FYI: Chem Dawg returns tomorrow!

Thursdays are the Acoustic Open Mic Jam – Join Jillian as she hosts Open Mic/Jams in the Detour’s state of the art acoustic venue.  Plugged or unplugged, bring your instruments, original songs, renditions of classic ones, or works in progress.  Free, 7-9pm

Saturday 3/23 – Ken Waldman and Willi Carlisle – 8-10pm, free show.  Alaskan Fiddling Poet, Ken Waldman, makes his first Port Townsend appearance in more than a decade when he appears this Friday. Waldman will be joined by Arkansas multi-instrumentalist, Willi Carlisle, and special guests. Both Ken Waldman and Willi Carlisle tour nationally. Waldman has come through Port Townsend occasionally over the years; this will be Carlisle’s first time ever on the Olympic Peninsula, and is part of his first ever tour in Washington state.

Ken Waldman combines Appalachian-style string-band music, original poetry, and Alaska-set storytelling for a performance uniquely his. He has eleven books, nine CDs, and since 1995 has appeared at the widest range of concert series, festivals, and clubs, from the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage to the Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland, Australia. Reviewers have compared his stage show to John Hartford and Garrison Keillor.

Band mate, Willi Carlisle, plays banjo, guitar, fiddle, and accordion, writes songs, calls square dances, and has written a solo show which he has performed at fringe festivals across North American. The Washington Post has written that his work is “powerful . . . both down-home and brainy.” He recently played the Americana UK 2019 Showcase Festival in London, England, and this past year’s CD, To Tell You the Truth, features nine originals and interpretations of three traditional numbers.

The Denver Post has called Ken Waldman’s shows “Renegade Americana” and according to The Austin Chronicle, his appearances are “Like a Ken Burns movie . . . Always recommended.” Ken Waldman promises a set of music that’s not only fun and inspiring—from raucous twin fiddles to fiddle & banjo hoedowns to original waltzes—but is also a soundtrack to a surprise journey from Jefferson County to the Real Alaska (with a detour through Arkansas and The Ozarks—Willi Carlisle’s territory). In addition to his signature Alaska-set storytelling, Waldman will also feature a few pieces from his just-released book, Trump Sonnets, Volume 3, the third in his acclaimed series about the current president.

If you’ve ever traveled to Alaska, this show will be like a return trip. If you’ve never been, this show will take you there, bring you home, and by the end you may just be ready to plan a trip north for real. Come see and hear an artist who crosses disciplines, takes chances, and remains an engaged citizen. Waldman likes to say his shows are full of fun, inspiration, and surprises. This one will have exceptional special guests.

Friday 3/29 – The Muddy Souls – Acoustic American roots music from Eugene, Oregon. Jacob John-Guitar, Austen Slone-Mandolin, Julianna Meares-Double Bass, Pete Romanelli-Guitar.  Fun and raucous acoustic string band specializing in original songs and eclectic covers.  7-10pm, free show
