It’s time for the weekly weed report!  Buckle up, this one is a doozy.

Sea Change was robbed in the early hours of Wednesday morning.  They made off with several pounds of bud, concentrates and pipes.

The quick answers: No one was harmed, there’s surveillance footage, the Sheriff is working on it, insurance will not cover our losses, and we are still open for business with reduced selection until new supplies arrive throughout the weekend.

Click here to see more photos of the thieves in action, read a list of stolen items and view Greg’s letter on our website (included below).  We’ve got a photo album on Facebook that’s just begging to be shared far and wide.

On a very personal note, having been involved with the store since day 1 and being as passionate as I am about what we are doing, this event is deeply disappointing.  It’s a violation of our space, a huge hit to us financially and offensive to me personally as I feel we strive to be good, decent people for our customers every single day.  My only sparkle of hope right now is that I *know* our customers appreciate us, you remind us every single day, and that means the world to all of us.  My gallows humor kicks in right about now and says hey, at least we’re the store with the products worth stealing.

Please forgive us as we get back up to speed! We thank all of you for your support and understanding.  With our current laws it can be very difficult to coordinate rapid deliveries, as they must quarantine the order for 24 hours, not to mention package and/or sticker everything, pack and deliver.  We are grateful to Green Acres Pharms and Green Envy for their help in getting product back on the shelves in the shortest amount of time they can muster.

In more upbeat neighborhood news, come to the Disco Bay Detour this Friday night to hear Swan Dive, and the Norman Baker Duo on Saturday.  Swan Dive is kind of a big deal, they’ve performed with some huge acts, written songs on soundtracks, traveled the world.  Norman Baker Duo is a very talented PNW act sure to delight with finger picking folksy Americana.

Open letter to the thieves and our customers:

02/16/17

To the thieves who broke into Sea Change Cannabis and our beloved customers,

We at Sea Change have strived, since we were the first pot shop in Jefferson County, to provide good customer service, product, and hospitality to our customers and patients, and to make the much maligned marijuana an engine for good.

We truly believe that this plant can make the world a better place and have worked toward that by donating to schools and non-profits, bankrolling the Discovery Bay Village Store, Disco Bay Detour, and HiYu Audio.  For years, Discovery Bay has been a place to drive by quickly, but we are working hard to change that.  We want to serve the local community by providing services that develop the community.   All powered by cannabis.

I’m not sure if you think this was a victimless crime, but our product, due to our small size is uninsurable.  The amount of money you can get for that product is pennies on the dollar, but for us, it pushes our 25 employees (across the four businesses) to the brink of losing our jobs

To our customers, thanks for sticking with us.  Don’t worry, there is plenty of cannabis left and our shelves are re-stocked.  But we’d love to see you, so stop by.  Your support will help us get through this.   We are posting everything that was stolen on our website, www.seachangecanna.biz, including the bar code on each package.  If one of your more nefarious friends happens to have acquired a big duffel bag of similar contents, let the Jefferson County Sheriff know.  They can’t possibly consume this much marijuana.

We hope that with your help, we can bring these thieves to justice and send the message that as a community, we are stronger than individual bullies and victimizers.

Greg Brotherton
